Bridget Jones's Diary

I'm reading the book called 'Bridget Jones's Diary' which was written by Helen Fielding. I read 20 pages this week.
Bridget is still worried about her weight and she tries to lose her weight because she falls in love with one guy who works at the same office as Bridget. One day, she gets up early to go to the office and she tries to make up carefully and also she wants to take long time to choose her clothes because she wants to be a beautiful woman in front of a her favorite guy. But, she doesn't remember where she put her favorite clothes and the cosmetic set in the house because she always leads a loose life. Finally, she spend time to find them for two hours. Although she got up early, she was late for the office.

While I was reading this chapter, I used the reading strategy called 'I try to picture in my mind what I have just read to help me remember what I read'. I tried to imagine that she could not find her clothes and make-up set. It reminded me about myself because I also take long time to prepare to go to the outside so I get up early if I play with my friends. And also I sympathized about Bridget's feeling that she wanted to be a beautiful woman in front of her favorite guy because if I fall in love with a guy, I would think that I want to be beautiful in front of him. I though that almost every girls or women had experienced like this feeling.

I will continue reading this book.

Bridget Jones's Diary

I'm reading the book called 'Bridget Jones's Diary' was written by Helen Fielding. I read 20 pages this week.

The chapter that I read this week was about Bridget worries about her life because she is not a clever and she always goes wrong with something . And also she feels lonely because she doesn't have a boyfriend and almost all her colleagues have husband or boyfriends. One day, Bridget calls on her father. And her father tells her that her mother falls in love with a young man and she wants to divorce with her father. When Bridget knows about that, she is shocked because she think that her mother loves her father forever.

While I was reading this chapter, I used the reading strategies called 'I try to picture in my mind what I read to help me remember what I read'. I could imagine in my mind that she always goes wrong about the business and romance. While I was reading, I sympathized with her feeling because I thought that I was also worried about myself. I didn't excel at anything and also I had to take long time to do everything. Also I tried to picture in my mind about her mother falls in love with a young man, though she has a husband. I imagines that if I noticed that my mother fell in love with a young man, I would cry and feel shock so much about it.

Bridget Jones's Diary

I started to read a new book called 'Bridget Jones's Diary' is written by Helen Fielding. I read 20 pages this week. This story is about a woman who is 30 years old and called Bridget. She lives in London and she likes to write the diary everyday. Even though she has no boyfriends, she has many friends in London. Her bobby is playing with her friends. The chapter that I read this week is started from January and then Bridget hold A Happy New Year party with friends in the house. In the party, she eats a lot of sweets and gorgeous meals and also she drinks all night with her friends. When she weighs herself on the scales next morning, she gets fat because she continues to eats and drink in the party. She is shocked and she decides to go on a diet.

While I was reading this chapter, I used the reading strategies called 'I try to picture in my mind what I read to help me remember what I read'. I imagined in my mind that Bridget weighed herself on the scales and she was shocked about her weight. I thought that many girls and women had experienced same thing as Bridget one time. Almost every girls and women care about their weight all the time and if they get fat a little bit, they try to do a diet. This chapter reminded me about myself. When I was in elementary school, I always held a New Year party with my family. I was looking forward to coming A New Year party because I liked to eat special food and also I liked to celebrate with my family.

All the Year of Her Life

In English class, I read the article called 'All the Year of Her Life' which is written by Morley Callaghan. This story is about the boy steals the lipsticks, a compact and a lipstick and at least two tubes of toothpaste in the store. The owner of the shop finds that these things is in the Alfred's pocket. The owner, Mr. Carr calls his mother to tell about it, but when his mother come in the store, she has a friendly smile. When Alfred and his mother come back to the house, she changes her attitude and she is angry at Alfred. On the night, he saw his mother drinking a cup of tea in the kitchen and then he was shocked because she looked very old and her lips was shaking. I think that the theme of this story is that everyone should care of their mother and the author wants to tell that children must not make parents worry.

While I was reading this story, I used one of the reading strategies called 'I try to picture in my mind what I have just read to help me remember what I read'. I imagined in my mind that Mr. Carr tried to get back the things from the boy's pocket. And I asked myself question that why Alfred went to the kitchen. I think that he decided to go to the kitchen because he worried about his mother. And also I could imagine in my mind that Alfred watched his mother quietly and sadly. In the English class, I listened the music which is related to the story and then I discussed about how the reading and music affected on the setting and the characters of the story. When I listened the music, I felt that it was jazz music and also the music tone was quite old, so I thought that the setting of the story was in the past and in Europe. When I read the story, I guessed that the characters were white and they were not so rich because if the boy was rich, he would not steal things in the store.

The Enchanted Garden

I read the article called 'The Enchanted Garden' which was written by Italo Calvino. This story is about two poor children are impressed with the beautiful garden because they never seen the beautiful things so two children try to play there but they feel uncomfortable because they worry that someone come to find and catch them. And a rich boy lives in that beautiful house but he can not play outside because he is sick. This story tells me that a life is not easy and everyone who live in all over the world can not be a perfect person.

While I was reading this article, I used the reading strategies called 'I try to picture in my mind what I have just read to help me remember what I read'. I imagined in my mind about one sentence that 'Whenever Giovannino said, "Let's go there," or "Let's do this," Serenella followed without a word.' (p 126) This sentence reminded me about myself. I have a older brother and I always followed him when I was young. And also I used 'I stop time to time to think about what I am reading', and 'When text become difficult , I pay closer attention to what I am reading'. This story was quite difficult for me, so I read carefully. In the article, when I read one sentence that 'sharp bends in the path and high, curling eucalyptus leaves and patches of sky' (p 127), I could picture in my mind that two children were impressed with the beauty of the garden.

The sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

I finished reading the book called 'The sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' written by Ann Brashares. I read 30 pages this week.

Finally, four main characters; Carmen, Tibby, Lena, and Bridget came back their mother country and they felt very happy about they could meet again. At the night, they held the party because they wanted to celebrate that they could meet again in the mother country. Each of them talked about the memory that they experienced during summer vacation. Through the travel in summer vacation, each of them had the precious experiences at the different places and then they could learn the importance of friends and family.

While I was reading this book, I tried to imagine that they could meet again at their home country. It reminded me about myself. In this summer vacation, I went back to Japan for one month and I met again with my friends there. I could sympathize with the main characters' feeling because I also felt happy that I could meet again with my friends in the mother country. Through this book, I could sympathize their feeling and thought many times and also this book remembered me again about the importance of friends.
