The sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

I'm still reading the book called 'The sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' written by Ann Brashares. I read 20 pages in this week.

The chapter that I read this week focused on Carmen. She has a father who remarried with other wife. When Carmen heard that a new wife divorced her old husband in the past because he had a serious drinking problem, she feels sorry to her. After her father and a new wife celebrate wedding, Carmen is requested to live with them. Carmen accepts about it, but after few weeks, she notices herself that her father doesn't care about her at all, and he loves only a new wife and her children. Her father doesn't love Carmen. She is shocked and feels lonely again. She tries to leave from her father's house because she can't believe him anymore.

While I was reading this chapter, I used the reading strategies called 'I try to picture in my mind what I have just read to help me remember what I read'. I tried to imagine that Carmen left from her father's house because she noticed that her father didn't care about her and also he didn't show love to her anymore. I felt sad and I thought that her father was really terrible because he had no responsibility for her. I felt sorry to her when she said 'I eat when I'm happy'.(p.182) She couldn't eat anything for few days because she was really shocked about it. Through this chapter, I noticed that I was very happy since I was born because I had parents and they gave love to me very much.

I almost finish to read this book.

It must be difficult for you to understand how Carmen feels. Did her father really prefer his new family or is that just Carmen's perception? Is there another explanation?
